DESCRIPTION

This course is all about essential notions and techniques in mathematics. You will learn about, and work with, things like sets, logic, counting, relations, functions and cardinality, but we will spend at least as much time on various techniques for proving mathematical statements, including direct and contrapositive proof, and proof by contradiction and induction. We will also teach you how to write down mathematical arguments properly.

Contact hours listed under a course description may vary due to the combination of lecture-based and independent work required for each course therefore, CEA's recommended credits are based on the ECTS credits assigned by VU Amsterdam. 1 ECTS equals 28 contact hours assigned by VU Amsterdam.
